What information is not needed to solve this problem?

Twenty-five percent of the players on the basketball team are taller than Charlie. Half of the players forgot to wash their uniforms. Charlie is 6 feet 2 inches tall. There are 20 members on the team. How many players are taller than Charlie?

Twenty-five percent of the players on the basketball team are taller than Charlie.

 

There are 20 members on the team.

 

25% of 20=5

 

so 5 players are taller than Charlie

 

Information not needed are

 

Half of the players forgot to wash their uniforms.

Charlie is 6 feet 2 inches tall.

 

Answer 2

"Half of the players forgot to wash the uniform" and "Charlie is 6 feet 2 inches tall" are not needed.  If you take it out of the problem, you can still solve it.
