The question is how many out of 12 is 1/4? We can do this in a couple of ways. First, set up this equation:

x/12 = 1/4

Solve it by multiplying both sides by 12:

x/12 = 1/4

x = 12/4

x = 3

The other way to solve this is to ask yourself "how many times does 4 go into 12?" The answer there is 3. So 1 * 3 = 3. Either way, Bobby at 3 slices!

a whole pizza has 12 slices. Bobby ate 1/4 of it. So, (1/4) * 12 slices is 3.

What Bobby Ate = 1/4(Pizza)

Pizza = 12 slices,

So, What Bobby Ate = 1/4(12 slices),

Therefore, What Bobby Ate = 1/4(12 slices) = 3 slices

...

Check your answer: The pizza slices can be written as 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12 ... There are 4 sets slices, with 3 slices per set... The problem states that Bobby ate 1/4 of the pizza... One fourth of the pizza is one set, and one set is 3. So, Bobby ate 3 slices.
