A rectangle garden measures 26 ft by 51 ft . Surrounding and bordering the garden is a path 3 ft wide . Find the area of this path .

the Garden only is 26ft by 51ft, however is it surround by 3ft wide path. so if you draw it you can see that the length of the garden  is 51ft the path add 3ft to each side so the length will become 51 + 3 + 3 = 57 ft 

same thing for the width we add 3ft to each side. 

at the end we calculate the area from the new Length and Width and minus it from the area of the garden.

Area of rectangular garden = Length* Width

                                       =26*51

                                       =1326 ft^{2..... (1)}

surrounding & Bordering garden with a 3 ft path so dimensions 29 ft by 54 ft

Area of rectangular garden with Path = 29*54= 1566 ft^2.......(2)

 

 Area of path = (2) -(1)

                    = 1566-1326

                    = 240 ft²
