The length of a rectangle is twice the width. If the perimeter 48 cm, find the dimensions of the rectangle.

This is a question I have struggled with for a few days now. I really need help figuring it out. I think youre supposed to use either the elimination or substitution method.

Given:

L = 2W

 

Perimeter equation 2 * (L + W)

48 = 2 * (L + W)

 

Substitute the first equation into the second equation, you should be able to find W first.  

48 = 2 * (2W + W)

 

Then you could find L by substitute the answer for W.
