From the data given you must have 5 dimes for every 3 pennies and 3 nickels for every 2 pennies.
A: So the least number is the smallest number that will satisfy these two conditions. The least number will be to apply these conditions once, so 3 pennies and 2 pennies equals 5 pennies. Since the first sentence stated that the envelope contains some dimes and nickels you cannot use a value of zero for the amount of pennies which would also satisfy the 2nd and 3rd sentences.
B: Total value = 2q + 5d + 3n + 3p + 2p
Total value = 2(0.25) + 5(0.1) + 3(0.05) + 5(0.01)
Total value = 2(0.25) + 5(0.1) + 3(0.05) + 5(0.01)
Total value = $1.20
