A rectangular photo frame has a length of 36 cm

A rectangular photo frame has a length of 36 cm and an area of 900 cm² .  In it's center is a rectangular piece of photograph 4 cm away from its length and 3 cm away from its width. Find the area of the photo frame which is not covered by the photograph.

Frame:

A = 900

36 * W = 900

W = 25

The border dimensions subtract from both ends of the length and width.

L = 36-(2)(4) = 28

W = 25-(2)(3) = 19

A = 532

 

900 - 532 = 368
