Using a standard cell phone keypad, how many random words (just letters strung together) can be produced from the PIN 23579?

7 and 9 have 4 letters on their keys, the others only 3.

 

So the number of letter strings (excluding the numbers) that can be produced is:

 

3*3*3*4*4 = 9*12*4 = 9*48 = (10-1)(50-2) = 500 - 70 + 2 = 432
