Carla bought a pack of pens. She gave 2/3 of the pens to her brothers. Carla lost 1 pen on the way to school and kept the 2 remaining pens. How many pens did Carla buy?

 

Answer 1

Let x = number of pens in the pack

 

(2/3)x + 1 + 2 = x

 

                  3 = (1/3)x

 

                  x = 9
