I think you have 2 triangle here that they are similar, and those letters are vertexes of the triangle.
ABC is the big triangle
ADE is inside the the ABC
D is between AB , and E between AC
DE is parallel with BC
According to 3rd Postulate of Euclid 2 parallel line if intersected with 3 rd line the interior and Exterior
angles are Congruent.
therefore:
< B = < D , < C = < E
Therefor ABC & ADE are similar.
AD/ AB = AE / AC is the proportionality ratio each ratio is the ratio of side opposite to congruent angle.
Note : I don't t think you had any idea about the triangles the you described the problem
