School A uses 8 vans and 8 busses to transport 240 students; school B uses 4 vans and 1 bus, having identical passenger capacities as the vans and busses at school A, to transport 54 students. What are the capacities of the vans and busses?
From school A: 8V + 8B = 240 which we can simplify to V+B = 30 where V & B are van & bus capacities
From school B: 4V+B=54
Subtracting the top equation above from the bottom: 3V = 24 so V=8 and thus B=24
