Let X be the amount of the check before the commission was deducted.
10% of X is the commission amount. So, X - 0.1X = your check amount.
X - 0.1X = 10,232.47
0.9X + 10,232.47 (Now divide both sides of the equation by 0.9)
X = 10,232.47/0.9 (Doing this division results in 11,369.411111....) Since we're working with money, we only need two decimal places to the right of the decimal point.
X = 11,369.41 The commission amount is 10% of this. Multiply this number by 0.1 for the answer.
