What is the coefficient of the second term of the trinomial?

(3x+3)^2=9x^2+Bx+9

Hi Kyona, first expand (3x + 3)2 giving 9x2 + 18x + 9.
 
Now compare the coefficients between: 9x2 + 18x + 9 and 9x + Bx + 9, to find the value of B.

The left hand and right hand sides must be equal.  Don expanded the left hand side for you, and you were given the right hand side:
 
9x2 + 18x + 9 = 9x2 + Bx + 9
 
Subtract 9x2 from both sides, and subtract 9 from both sides, and get
 
18x = Bx
B = 18x/x = 18
