Cellular diversity is important when building complex organisms such as the human body because diversity, or variation allows the cells to be better adapted.
Through the process of natural selection certain traits are favored over others because of their ability to adapt to change in the environment or ability to adapt to competition. These traits are then passed on from generation to generation. This is the larger scale of cellular diversity.
In order for a complex organism to survive, its simplest structure, the cell, should have advantageous variations in order to better adapt to changes in the environment and survive these changes.
Through sexual reproduction variation is obtained by the mixing of parents genes, crossing over, and mutations. Through asexual reproduction, variation is obtained through mutation. Which in turn goes to say that mutations aren't always negative.
