Hi Cynthia,
1)
7x-5y=2
1/3x-1/2y=-1/6
2y-3x/6xy=-1/6
2y-3x=-xy
7x-5y=2.......eq-1
-3x+2y=-xy.......eq-2
Now multiply eq-1 by 2 & eq-2 by 5,
we get,
14x-10y=4.........eq-3
-15x+10y=-5xy......eq-4
adding eq-3 & eq-4,
we get,-x=4-5xy
simplifying, 5xy-x=4
x(5y-1)=4
x=4/5y-1
substituting value of x in eq-1,7x-5y=2-1
7(4/5y-1)-5y=2
28-25y^2+5y=10y-2
0=25y^2+5y-30
0=5y^2+y-6
0=5y^2+6y-5y-6
0=y(5y+6)-1(5y+6)
0=(5y+6)(y-1)
5y+6=0 or y-1=0
y=-6/5 or y=1
now substituting the value of y in x=4/5y-1
if y=-6/5 then x=4/5(-6/5)-1=-4/7
if y=1 then x=4/5 -1=1
Ans: (-4/7,-6/5) & (1,1)
You can check your ans.
2)x+y=2...eq-1
2x+3y=7....eq-2
Multiply eq1 by -2 & eq2 by 1
we get,-2x-2y=-4......eq-3
2x+3y=7........eq-4
Adding eq -3 & eq-4,y=3
x+y=2
if y=3, x+3=2
x=-1
ckeck:Lhs of eq-1=x+y=-1+3=2 Rhs
Ans:(-1,3)
3)
x+y=6.....eq-1
3x+3y=4....eq-2
Multiply eq-1 by -3 & eq-2 by 1,we get,
-3x-3y=-18...eq-3
3x+3y=4.....eq-4
if we add eq-3 & eq-4, 0=-14 which is not possible.
so no solution.....
4)
x+2y=5....eq-1
2x-y=-10....eq-2
Multiply eq-1 by 1 & eq-2 by 2,we get,
x+2y=5.....eq-3
4x-2y=-20....eq-4
Adding eq-3 & eq-4, we get,
5x=-15
x=-3
substituting value of x=-3 in eq-1, we get
-3+2y=5
y=4
Ans: (-3,4). you can check ans.
5)3x+y/7=1
3x+y=7.....eq-1
x-2y=0
x=2y
substituting the value of x in eq-1, we get
3*2y+y=7
7y=7
y=1
x=2*1=2
Ans: (2,1). you can check your ans.
