Hi Shyanne;
The equation is in slope-intercept form...
y=mx+b
m is the slope.
b is the y-intercept, the value of y when x=0.
y=10x+3000
Slope is 10. Slope is the change-of-y divided by the change-of-x...
(y-y1)/(x-x1)
This is also known as rise-over-run.
y-intercept is 3000. The point where the line crosses the y-axis is (0,3000). At the time of zero seconds, the sky-diver is at 3,000 feet.
When graphing this, the y-axis is the height. The x-axis is the seconds. The first point is at (0,3000). The value of x is 0, the value of y is 3000.
Beginning with this point, the line will rise 10 units of length in feet as it runs to the right 1 unit of time in seconds. As you can see, slope of 10 should be -10 because the sky-diver is jumping down, loosing height, not up.
y=-10x+3000
The line will NOT move to the left of the y-axis because there is NO such thing as negative height.
The line will NOT move below the x-axis because there is NO such thing as negative time.
