y+5=-1/2x

Let's subtract 5 from both sides...

y+5-5=(-1/2)x-5

y=(-1/2)x-5

The equation is now in the format of...

y=mx+b

m is the slope.

b is the y-intercept, the value of y when x=0.

Slope is -1/2.

b is -5.
