Jane plans a car trip from Newtown to Trent. The distance between the towns is 925 miles. Then 3 days later, she drives back to Newtown. If she only has 7 days for the trip how many miles does she drive each day

7 - 3 = 4 days driving

 

2*925 miles / 4 days = 462.5 miles / day

Well, she has 7 days for the trip, but according to the description, she spends 3 days there, which leaves 4 days total for travel.  That's 2 days to get there, and 2 days to return.  Each way is 925 miles.  So you divide the miles (925) by the number of days she has to drive (2) to get the total mileage each day.
