The maximum distance (d) 696 can see from the top of a building with height (h) is approximated by the form D=ksqrt(h). Apartment buildings A and B are 9 and 16 stories high, respectively. if these two buildings have the same height per floor, about how many times farther can you see from the top of building B than from the top of building A?

All we have to do is calculate and compare our two distances:

 

D_A = k √9 = 3k

D_B = k √16 = 4k

 

So, if we're looking for distance seen from B divided by distance seen from A, then we're looking for:

 

D_B/D_A = 4k/3k = 4/3

 

Therefore, we can see 4/3 as far, or 1.33 times as far.
