How much do i need to get on my final grade to pass the course. Urgent.

So my module is divided into: 40% coursework, 30% practical work and 30% final exam with a 50% minimum overal in order to pass it. If I got a 70 on the coursework and 45 on the practical work, how much do i need to get on the final exam in order to pass the course?

Coursework points:     .40 x 70 = 28
Practical work points:  .30 x 45 = 13.5
                                                 ------

Total points so far:                      41.5

This means you have 41.5 so far and therefore need to get 8.5 weighted points out of your final.

Therefore:

 

          .30(x) = 8.5
             x = 28.3

So would need to get a 29% (you have to round up from 28.3 because you need equal to or HIGHER than this 28.3) on your final to get a 50% in your class.

Here's the final breakdown:

Coursework points:    .40 x 70 = 28
Practical work points: .30 x 45 = 13.5
Final exam:               .30 x 29 = 8.7
                                               ------
Total                                        50.2

A final exam of 28% would give you a 49.9, which unless the teachers round, wouldn't put you over the top.
If the teacher rounds a 49.5 to a 50, then you could score a 27% on the final and still pass.

you are worrying about the wrong thing. in fact, any worry at this point is counterproductive.

 

all you can and should do is concentrate on review in key areas, and go into the final relaxed and confident. 

do remember to CHECK YOUR WORK carefully.
