The perimeter of a rectangle rug is 40 ft and the area is 96 ft². Find the dimensions of the rug.

Using L as length, 40 as perimeter, we can say 2L + 2W = 40 so W (width) = 20-L.

 

Area = L(20-L) = 96.  Solve this quadratic equation.
