The sum of a number and 4 can be expressed as x+4
Twice times the sum of a number and for can be expressed as 2 (x + 4)
The "is 7" at the end can be expressed as "= 10"
Put the pieces together and here is what you get:
2 (x + 4) = 7
Solve:
2 (x + 4) = 7
2x + 8 = 7
2x = -1
x = -1/2
