I can convert the words in the problem to mathematical terms "3 times my age" would = 3times; "my age 4 years ago" would be#( x-4); now I can solve for x. 3(x-4) = 27. Next I distribute the 3 throughout the parenthesis and get
3x-12=27. The next step is to add 12 to both sides. 3x-12 +12=27 +12, = 3x=39. Lastly divide by three 3x/3=39/3, =x=13 you are 13 years old.
