What happened to the last dollar?

3 men rent 1 room for $30/nite. After they check in, the hotel manager sees that there was a $5 discount on that room. So he sends the bell boy back to their room with 5 $1 dollar bills. The bell boy pockets $2.00 & give each renter $1.00 back. So if the 3 men paid $9.00 each = $27.00 plus $2.00 the bell boy took = $29.00.. what happened to the last dollar?

The three gentlemen each pitched in $10 and it was accounted for as follows:

25 to the hotel, 3 for refund, 2 for the bellboy (unbeknown to the men or the hotel).

 

From the standpoint of the three gentlemen, they each put out 9 bucks; 27 - 2 which bellboy pocketed = $25 paid, including discount; they don't know about the discount and that's why the bellboy skimmed $2).

Yes, they paid $9 each for a total of $27. They each got $1 refund for a total of $30. 

(The ruse is the $2 that the bellboy took.)
