Donna buys apples at .35 cents each. She eats 2 apples and sells the rest for .45 cents each. She make $4.40. How many apples did she have?
since the 2 apples she eats is not part of the profit she makes, the equation becomes:
$4.40 + .35a+$0.70= .45a-$0.70
the $0.70 cancels out & you have
$4.4 + .35a=.45a
$4.4=.45a-.35a
$4.4=.1a
$4.4/.1=a
44+2=a
a=46
