so,
68,477(1.25) = her new salary = 85,596.25

 

Can you see this as:
.25(68,477) + 68,477 = her new salary
(25% of her original salary) + her original salary
Factor out the 68,477  and you get

68,477(.25 + 1) = new salary
68,477(1.25) = new salary
