Tickets for a school event were $2.50 for students and $3.75 for parents. If a total of 8787 tickets were sold for $262.50 , how many student and parent tickets were sold?

Let S be the number of student tickets sold and P be  the number of parent tickets sold.

 

We can form 2 equations based on this 

 

S + P = 8787

 

2.50S + 3.75P = 262.50

 

 

Now you can either solve these system of equations by using substitution or elimination.
