This linear equation is in slope intercept form. That means the coefficient of x (-1) is the slope, and 6 is the y-intercept. If 6 is the y-intercept, you know one point on the line (0, 6). With one point and the slope, we can graph the line. If the slope is -1, that means y decreases by 1 as x increases by 1. So we can plot on the coordinate plane or set up a chart of x and y values.

Once you have 3 points, you can graph the equation.
You can also solve for a given value of x or y. If x = 2, solve for y.
