If daisy sells a bouquet for $39.95 plus 2.95 for each rose and flora sells a bouquet for $26.00 plus 4.50 for each rose. How may roses needed to make the bouquets equal in price

Here's what we know:

39.95 + 2.95r = 26 + 4.5r (we need the two bouquets to equal one another)

 

Subtract 26 from both sides:

13.95 + 2.95r = 4.5r

Subtract 2.95r from both sides:

13.95 = 1.55r

Divide both sides by 1.55:

9 = r

 

Check:

39.95 + 2.95 * 9 = 26 + 4.5 * 9

39.95 + 26.55 = 26 + 40.5

66.5 = 66.5
