a-let assume that Angela needs to walk (Y)km from home to school

   Then Dianne need to walk Y+2

   because Y=1.5, then Y+2=1.5+2=3.5km

   then Dianne needs to walk 3.5km from home to school

 

b-when Y=x ; then (x+2)km is the distance between Dianne's home and her school

Diana and Angela:

Diana's house is 2 km further from school than Angela's house

so Diana's house from school = Angela's house from school+ 2 km

a. Diana's house from school = 1.5 km+ 2 km = 3.5 km

b. we are going to turn the word problem into an equation.  we will call Diana's house y and Angela's house x.  So where we see the words "Diana's house" and "Angela's house", we will substitute in y and x

 

Diana's house from school= Angela's house from school + 2 km becomes:

y=x+2 km
