Then 20 jars holds 20 * 1 3/4 cups

 

20 * 1 3/4 = 20 * 7/4  if we convert the mixed number to an improper fraction

 

20 * 7/4 = 140/4 = 35

 

The most that 20 jars can hold is 35 cups, which is 5 less than the 40 cups of sauce that we are canning
