Antonio needs to add a cleaning chemical to four different containers. He has 2 1/2 cups of liquid, and he needs distribute all of it equally to each container. How much of the cleaning chemical should he put into each container? the answer should be in cups.

He needs to divide the 2 1/2 cups into 4 containers.

 

First change 2 1/2 to an improper fraction.

 

2 1/2 = 5/2

 

Now divide by four, which is the same as multiplying by 1/4.

 

5/2 x 1/4 = 5/8

 

They are each 5/8 cups.
