Lia's age =3x-2

 

Mary's age in 6 years  = x+6 and also 4x-6

 

SO 4x-6 = X+6    (Subtract X from both sides)

 

 3x-6 = 6

3x= 12

 

3x/3 =12/3

 

x=4

 

Mary is 4 years old

Lia is 4+6 = 10 years.

L is Lia's age

 

M is Mary's age

 

L = 3M - 2

 

M + 6 = 4x - 6

 

subtract 6 on both sides

to get current age:

 

   M = 4x - 12

 

substitute into first equation

 

 L = 3(4x - 12)

 

 L = 12x - 36

 

This is Lia's age in terms of X.
