Karen and I are buying Eileen a birthday gift and splitting the cost equally. Karen purchased an item for $37 for Eileen and I purchased an item for $10 for Eileen. How much do I owe Karen?

This is the case if you give both gifts to Eileen:
the total cost for the gift = 37 + 10 =$47
the total cost for each = 47/2 = $23.5
since you already paid $10, you owe Karen 23.5-10=$13.5.
