small atom having much stronger bond

Why atom with small size formed much stronger bond than atoms with large size? Please Explain.

Picture pulling on a rope to open a door. You will open the door with more force if you pull on the rope closer to the door as opposed to further away.

 

The bond is stronger in a smaller atom because there is less distance to cover. The atoms and nuclei are closer together. Larger atoms present more area (space) between the nuclei and the force of the bond is spread over more distance.
