When a number is divided by 6, the remainder is 5. When the same number is divided by 7, the remainder is 6. When the same number is divided by 9, the remainder is 8. What is the number?

you want a number that is 1 less than a multiple of 6 and 1 less than a multiple of 7 and 1 less than a multiple of 9

find the LCM (least common multiple) of 6, 7, and 9

6=2*3

7=7

9=3*3

LCM=2*3*7*3=126

now take 1 less than 126

126-1=125 is the answer

125/6=20 R5

125/7=17 R6

125/9=13 R8
