Silas crawls 3.24 meters due East then crawls 2.7 meters due South. Find the magnitude of the net displacement vector. Make sure you do the following in your answer:
include correct units
make your answer correct within 0.02
make your answer positive (because magnitudes are always considered positive)
put your answer in a form like one of these:

                      ↓ 2.7 m South                

 

The vectors form a right triangle with the resultant.

Apply the Pythagorean theorem to solve for the magnitude of the resultant displacement vector.   

 

R = √[(3.24)² + 2.7)²]        

 

R = √(10.5 + 7.3)

 

R = √(17.8)

 

R = 4.2 m
