On Sunday, Katie walked to Sabrina’s house and then walked with Sabrina to school. At the end of the
day, she was picked up and taken home. If Katie walked a total of 2 1/4
miles, 1 3/4 miles of it with Sabrina, how many miles did Katie walk to Sabrina’s house?

total minus with Sabrina equals Katie alone

2 1/4 - 1 3/4 = Katie alone

9/4 - 7/4 = Katie                  LCD

2/4 = Katie                           combine
