A beer bottling company ordered 2100 more 12 oz bottles than 1 quart bottles. The cost of the 12 oz bottles are 8 cents each and the 1 quart bottles are 11 cents each. The total cost was $310.50. How many of each type of bottle was ordered ?

I would set it up as:

               1 qt       12 oz

ordered    x           2100+x

cost        .11x         .08(2100+x)

 

equation  .11x + .08(2100+x)=310.50

solve ()   .11x + 168 + .08x = 310.50

"x" terms .19x + 168 = 310.50

isolate "x" .19x = 142.50

÷.19x           x = 750

1 qt ordered = 750

12 oz ordered = 2850
