8÷2(2+2) does not equal 8÷2x(2+2). Here's the answer: 8÷2(2+2)= 8/(4+4).... Notice parentheses still there?.... Therefore =8/8=1 = 8/2to the third power

Something being next to a parentheses containing a number literally means to multiply. 6(7)= 42

You guys aren't understanding that once the parentheses is worked you restart at the beginning 8/2(4)... yes there are still parentheses however, since only one number is in the parentheses they only stand for multiplication and no longer hold the "Parentheses" title. So, 8/2(4) = 8\2 = 4(4) = 16

But have to execute it and remove parentheses.

How many point have we averaged in 3 point shots the last 66 games if the center has scored 12 and the guard has scored 10 of their shots? 66÷3(12+10)=? 66÷(36+30)=? 66÷66=1

No i think your answer is wrong it should be 1 because like you side parentheses first right which would give u 2 plus 2 equals 4 so now u have 8 divide by 2(4) so mutiply first u get 2x4 equals 8 so 8 divided 8 equals 1 dude u have to follow the PEMDAS  multiplication  comes first before division

To Jathon.

On SEPTEMBER 1 I wrote: "I agree with the answer given by Richard & Patrick."  I included a long narrative about how it's done in England, etc., but that entire answer was not approved.

8÷2 (2+2) MUST FOLLOW THE LEFT-TO-RIGHT PRECEDENCE RULE. First, you have the (2+2) which equals four; now you have 8 ÷ 2 * 4 and so the L-to-R scan encounters the 8, the division operation, and the 2; this 2 is immediately available and so the division is done immediately.
Now you have 4 * 4 = 16. Note that it's multiplication because of the adjacency of two numbers separated by parentheses, originally, so that the multiplication symbol did not physically appear when in that original form.

If you had 8 ÷ 22 you would NOT divide 8 by 2 because the 2 is not available; it has to be squared first. Then in this problem you'll have 8  ÷ 4 = 2. Operations are performed as soon as two things upon which to operate are available; since MD (mult. & div.) are of equal strength, in this original problem discussed in September, the division occurs, and then its quotient is multiplied by that 4.

Set it to an equation 8/x(2+2)=16 Solve this and the answer is x= 2 8/x(2+2)=1???? Good luck. I get x=32 NOT 2 Not that hard. 16 Sorry England

Wait, Mike S, that equation would still equal 2. 8 -:- x(2+2)=1. Multiply both sides by the x(2+2). Now it’s 8=x(2+2) right? That’s now simplified 8=x•4. Divide by 4, x=2.

The problem is notation. When presented as 8/2(2X2) the equation is meaningless. The slash is mathematically ambiguous and in Physics is ordered after multiplication yielding 1. Using 8÷2(2X2) your use of the 4th grade convention of left to right PEMDAS would yield 16. In science we either use parentheses around both terms or we use the mathematically correct symbol of a horizontal line between numerator terms and denominator terms yielding the answer 1.

Answers to math problems should be the same all over the world, math is ambiguous and selective there only 1 right answer and that is 1.

parenthesis has a purpose to associate certain elements of the equation otherwise there would no need for them and everything would be "×" for example 2(x+y) that 2 is married to these inside and can't go divide the 8, That is the one and only purpose to isolate terms and the relation to the equation! Just read the problem out loud and tell me how you divide 8 by ? and get 16??? you would have to divide it by .5........ ..
