I know that the answer is apples is 50 cents and tomatoes are 75, but I don't know how to solve the problem

A is cost of one apple

 

T is cost of one tomatoe

 

      3A + 2T = $3

 

      5A + 1T = $3.25  multiply this equation by -2

 

     -10A -2T = -$6.50  add this equation to first equation

                                   to eliminate the T

 

            -7A = -$3.50

 

               A = $.50

 

each apple cost 50 cents;  each tomato cost 75 cents
