Let's start by making various changes to each equation:
a = b / 5
5a = b [multiply both sides by 5]
and
10a = 14
a = 14/10 = 7/5 [divide both sides by 10; reduce]
Once we have isolated either 'a' or 'b' on one side of the equation, we may substitute that value into the other equation.
b = 5a and a = 7/5
b = 5(7/5)
b = 7
