To name this, count the carbons in the chain beginning at the end closest to the double bond. This means that the far right hand carbon is #1. Starting from there, the chain has 6 total carbons. The position of the double bond is at carbon 1.
Now put this all together:
6 carbon chain = hex
alkene: -ene suffix, so hexene
double bond position: carbon 1, so 1-hexene
I know it is tempting to count the carbons from left to right because this is the direction we are used to from reading. In naming structures, though, you need to prepared to count in any direction in order to give positions the lowest number as required by the naming rules.
