A word problem involving finding the length and width with the perimeter

a rectangular garden has a length that is five less than twice the width. The garden perimeter is 50 meters. What are the dimensions of the garden.

L=2W-5 and 2L+2W=50. So we get

 

2(2W-5)+2W=50

4W-10+2W=50

6W=60

W=10

 

And L=20-5=15.
