At the lumberyard, lumber costs $0.95 a foot. If you need 6.5 feet, how much will you pay?

Ivana, when you multiply decimals, you multiply just like two whole numbers, then count the total number of digits after the decimal points.

 

95 x 65 = 6175. There are two digits after the decimal in 0.95 and one in 6.5, so we will have THREE total digits after the decimal. Our answer is $6.175, which would round to $6.18.
