The measure of an angle is one-forth the measure of its supplement. Find the measure of each angle

I can't find the answer to the question and am confused on how to set it up. I'm not the greatest at word problems

Two angles are supplementary when their measures add to 180°.

 

m represents the measure of one angle

180 - m represents the measure of the supplement

 

180 - m = 0.25m              statement relation

180 = 1.25m                   add m to both sides

144 = m

 

Now what is the other angle?

supplementary angles sum to 180º

x=the angle

180-x=the supplement

x=(1/4)(180-x)

4x=180-x

4x+x=180

5x=180

x=180/5

x=36º the angle

180-36=144º the supplement

Let the angle be x  degrees

 

Then,

 

  x= (180-x)/4

 

5x=180

 

x=36  degrees
