Jennifer is saving money to buy a bike.  The bike cost $245. She has $125 saved, and each week she adds $15 to her savings. How long will it take her to save enough money to buy the bike?

It is a lineal equation:

 

$245 = $125 + $15* X      where X is the number of weeks

 

Reordering terms:

 

15 X = 245 - 125

 

Dividing by 15 both sides:

 

X = (245 - 125)/15  = 8

 

For getting the final amount to buy the bike, Jennifer will need 8 weeks saving $15 each one.
