To receive a B in his english class Nuck must have an average score of at least 80 on five tests. He scored 87, 89, 76 and 77 ob his first four tests. What must he score on the last test to receive a B in the class?

So, Nicole, this can be confusing at first, but it's easier than you think, I promise!

 

How do we find the average? We add up all our scores and divide the total by the number of scores. We have everything except one score. Let's call it s.

 

(87 + 89 + 76 + 77 + s)/5 = 80

(329 + s)/5 = 80

329 + s = 400

s = 71
