Tortoise A walks 52.0 feet per hour and tortoise bB walks 12 inches per minute. Which tortoise travels faster? Explain.

Since turtle A's speed is in feet per hours, find out how far turtle B's speed in feet per hour.

 

First multiply by 60 to find out how many inches turtle B travels in an hour since 60 minutes = 1 hour.

 

12 inches x 60 minutes = 720 inches per hour.

 

Now divide by 12 to see how far turtle B travels in feet since 12 inches = 1 ft

 

720 inches per hour / 12 = 60 ft per hour.

 

Turtle B is faster.
