I have an answered question but need help converting

Question

the question was : I can run 5 miles in one hour. At this rate how long will it take me to run 7miles? 

 

5/1=7/x 

 

5x=7

5x/5=7/5

x=1.4 the answer was 1 hour and 24 minutes. How does 1.4 get converted to 1 hour and 24 mins

Kristina, remember that an hour has 60 minutes!

 

60(1.4) = 84 minutes = 1 hour, 24 minutes

I would start by figuring out how long it takes me to run one mile. Remembering that 60 miles= 1 hour, I divide 60 minutes/5 miles and get 12 minutes/mile.  I can then multiply that 12 minutes per mile by 7 miles to find my answer. 

 

12 minutes x 7 miles = 84 minutes =1 hour 24 minutes
