At what rate what each invested at?

$9500 is invested, part is at 11% and part at 9%, for a certain year they made $973. How much was invested in each rate?

Assume simple interest.

 

Let x be the amount invested at 11%, then (9500 - x) is invested at 9%

 

Then .11x + .09(9500 - x) = 973

.11x + 855 - .09x = 973

.02x = 118

x = $5900 invested at 11%

The rest, $3600, was invested at 9%
